Speculation homes · Completed residences

On the River Living

Two contemporary Salida homes designed around the contrast between town and river, with elevated living spaces opening to generous decks on both sides.

Project overview

Set between the energy of Salida and the natural beauty of the Arkansas River, these neighboring speculation homes were designed around two distinctly different sides of riverfront living. Street-facing decks connect the homes to the surrounding neighborhood and activity of town, while generous rear decks provide quieter outdoor retreats overlooking the river corridor.

The primary living spaces are elevated to the second floor, placing the kitchen, dining, and living areas between the two outdoor environments. Large windows and glazed doors bring in abundant natural light and allow the decks to function as true extensions of the interior. Residents can move easily between the social side of town and the calmer river side throughout the day.

Simple gabled forms, deep roof overhangs, warm wood accents, stone-clad columns, and clean contemporary detailing give the homes a comfortable mountain character. Flexible rooms and generous garages support full-time living, visiting family, working from home, and the equipment that comes with an active Colorado lifestyle. Together, the homes balance the convenience of living in Salida with the sound, movement, and tranquility of the Arkansas River just beyond the rear deck.
